B96 MUSIC CHECK: 3 Songs Making Noise This Week

B96 DallasNovember 3, 20264 min read

A cinematic new track from LISA, a wedding that might need stopping, and a dance record that's impossible to ignore. Three very different sounds. One B96 playlist.

Some songs sound like hits the first time you hear them. Others sneak up on you. And then there are those records that make you stop and ask, “Wait, who is THAT?”

That's what makes discovering new music so much fun.

Dallas/Fort Worth's New Hit Music

10 hits in a row. Every hour.

Welcome back to B96 MUSIC CHECK, our weekly look at three songs catching our attention on Dallas/Fort Worth's NEW Hit Music.

This week, we're going from the big screen to a wedding aisle, then straight to the dance floor.

And we're curious which one YOU think deserves to get louder.

THE ONE TO WATCH: LISA — “Tarantino”

Lights. Camera. LISA.

The BLACKPINK superstar is bringing some serious movie-star attitude to her latest solo release, “Tarantino.”

Taken from her new six-track EP Press Play, released October 23, the song leans into a cinematic concept inspired by filmmaker Quentin Tarantino. There's confidence, swagger, and plenty of personality packed into the production.

And the music video? It's practically a mini action movie, with LISA fighting her way through a hotel to deliver a mysterious note to the famous director.

But here's what we're really interested in.

LISA already has a massive international following. Can “Tarantino” turn that star power into another mainstream pop hit?

It's bold, it's different, and it definitely doesn't sound like everything else on the radio.

Our take: This is one to keep an eye on. The attitude is there. Now we'll see whether the hook sticks.

THE ONE GETTING LOUDER: ASHE — “Stop the Wedding!”

Okay, imagine being at a wedding when somebody suddenly decides the whole thing needs to STOP.

That's basically the energy Ashe brings to “Stop the Wedding!”

And yes, it's every bit as dramatic as the title suggests.

The California singer-songwriter blends theatrical pop, soaring vocals, strings, and a chorus that feels like it belongs in the final scene of a romantic comedy.

But underneath all that drama is a surprisingly relatable message about not settling for a relationship that doesn't feel right.

The song opens Ashe's new album, The Girl of Your Dreams, released October 16, and it's already been making an impression internationally, including a Top 3 showing on the UK singles chart.

What makes this record interesting for B96 is how different it feels from the typical pop formula.

It's melodic, a little quirky, and packed with personality.

Sometimes those are exactly the songs that connect.

Our take: Don't underestimate this one. A memorable title, a big chorus, and a sound that stands out could give “Stop the Wedding!” some staying power.

THE WILDCARD: DJ GOJA — “Mi Chico”

Now let's change the mood completely.

If LISA brings the attitude and Ashe brings the drama, DJ Goja is bringing the party.

“Mi Chico,” featuring Jason Derulo and Melody, mixes dance production, rhythmic hooks, and international pop flavor into a track that feels made for turning up the volume.

It's a different kind of energy from the other two songs we're watching this week.

And that's exactly why it caught our attention.

The collaboration brings together DJ Goja's dance sound, Jason Derulo's pop appeal, and Melody's Brazilian influence for something that doesn't fit neatly into just one musical lane.

For a station like B96, that's part of the fun of discovering new music.

Not every potential hit has to follow the same formula.

Sometimes a record just needs the right beat, the right hook, and enough personality to make you want to hear it again.

Our take: This is our wildcard for a reason. Could “Mi Chico” bring a little more dance-floor energy to today's hit music? We're listening.

THREE SONGS. THREE DIFFERENT SOUNDS. WHICH ONE STAYS?

That's what B96 MUSIC CHECK is all about.

We're not just watching the biggest hits. We're paying attention to the songs that could become the next ones you can't get out of your head.

This week's contenders:

🎬 LISA — “Tarantino”
The cinematic pop contender with plenty of attitude.

💍 Ashe — “Stop the Wedding!”
The dramatic, hook-filled pop song that's getting attention.

🔥 DJ Goja featuring Jason Derulo & Melody — “Mi Chico”

The international dance wildcard bringing something different.

Now it's your turn, DFW.
